Healthy Eating Plan For Teenagers

Teenagers are some of the most impressionable group of people. Because their bodies are changing during their teen years, they are also more conscious of how they look. In fact, there is higher incidence of eating disorders among teenagers, as well as higher rates of obesity.

If you are a teenager, then it is important to know that a healthy body does not mean you need to be reed-thin and lean.  Achieving that healthy body definitely does not require starving yourself. As a teenager, your body is still growing and developing. This is why you need the proper nutrients to help your body cope with all the activities that a teenager usually does.

You could adapt a healthy eating plan for teenagers to maintain a healthy body. Below is a guide to help you.

  • Higher calorie requirement. Good news for all teenagers, your bodies generally need more calories than older people. A healthy eating plan will give your body adequate fuel to hurdle the growth processes and activities that it has to undergo. Make sure though that the calories you are consuming come from appropriate food types and are sufficient. Junk foods are definitely not good for you no matter how many calories you need to consume in a day.
  • Breakfast. Although many people ignore this meal, it is actually the most important. It will be your body’s source of energy for the day ahead of you. Some food items that would be good for breakfast are those that are rich in protein and complex carbohydrates, as well as fruits and fruit juices.
  • Healthy Snacks. Many teenagers love to snack. This is a good idea for as long as you make healthy choices.  So you should stay away from fast food joints and stock up on healthy snacks like fruits and vegetables instead.  That way, you have something to snack on when you feel hungry.
  • Time. Since teenagers are always rushing to do something, many also hurry and neglect to eat properly during meal times. Take your time while eating so that your body can signal your brain if you are full already. It usually takes about 20 minutes for the brain to recognize a full stomach. Do not skip on any meal because this would only make you hungrier and increase your tendency to overeat.

Losing weight too fast is also very unhealthy so do not try to go on crash diets nor take weight loss supplements. Instead, go on a healthy eating plan that is appropriate for teenagers then patiently wait for the effects it would have on your body.
